Policies
From time to time, the AFSRB will create policies to clarify provisions that are found in the Funeral Services Act and Funeral Services Act General Regulation, or the Crematory Regulation under the Cemeteries Act.
These policies provide additional details to clearly outline the expectations of the AFSRB in regard to certain provisions of the legislation. This allows for the AFSRB to apply those expectations in a consistent and fair manner to all funeral services businesses operations.
Policies may also be created to address an area of funeral service that is not addressed in the legislation, that the AFSRB feels is important to provide some clarity for.
Under the Funeral Services Act, General Regulation, Section 29 allows for the AFSRB to require continuing education for funeral directors, embalmers, dual funeral director/embalmer, pre-need salespersons and business managers. The requirement the AFSRB has in place is 12 credits in a 3-year cycle. Each year there is a 3-credit self- directed education requirement for licence renewal and one year there is a 6-credit requirement where the AFSRB will host a mandatory course worth 3 credits in addition to 3 self-directed credits.
The AFSRB does not pre-approve courses or programs that may be available to licensees. Instead, the onus falls to the individual licensee to justify the courses they have taken in relation to the Core Competencies, a link to these core competencies is included below.

Who Can Control Disposition
The AFSRB has created a best practice that is recommended for funeral services businesses to follow. As of January 15, 2020, there is a requirement for every funeral services business to have in place a policy for both Visual Identification and Labelling.
